The
Pro1500 Blue + Red mode effectively treats mild to very inflamed
acne in a period of one month. It is faster that oral antibiotics
and works on both adults and teenagers with tanned, pale or highly
pigmented skin.

Pro1500 in the Blue-only mode efficiently activates LevulanTM
with the optimum wavelength and medically-proven intensity
blue light.

The
Pro1500 delivers even coverage on a 7" x 13" area (full
face, but not wrap-around), when positioned approximately 4.5"
from the skin. The increased treatment time, compared to the full
face Pro Hand Held APL treatment,
is a consequence of the short distance
from the skin.

How
the Drug-Free Blue + Red Program Works
Intense
blue light penetrates deep into hair follicles and underneath
oil glands where acne colonies remain after benzoyl peroxide
treatments. Blue light penetration, approximately 1.5 mm
is about four times deeper than most topical treatments
are able to penetrate. In addition the effect is highly
localized. Blue light creates a toxic event within the bacteria,
but is neutral to the skin itself.
In
this graph, the topical treatment is 5% benzoyl peroxide
and the antibiotic is oral tetracycline.

Clients
can expect a better than 85% reduction in inflammatory acne lesions,
with a cessation of pitting and hyper-pigmentation for those who
experience these problems.
Subsequent
small flares may be experienced after 2-3 months for adolescent
boys and 3-4 months in adolescent girls. Adults of both genders
experience longer remission times.
Clients
should be aware that occasional pimples form in response to stress,
such as exams, upcoming sports and social events, or through abrasion
caused by sports gear.
How
the Levulan Blue-only Program Works
LevulanTM
is a Dusa Pharmaceuticals trade marked name for aminolevulonic
acid (ALA). ALA absorbs blue light and becomes activated. This
activation is highly toxic to the acne bacteria, but no to surrounding
skin cells. Dermillume devices provide the medically-proven optimum
wavelength and intensity required for this effect.
Lasers
are inefficient activators of Levulan.
