Dermillume PRO Hand Held APL
Designed to Optimize Levulan Activation

Many dermatologists are using LevulanTM (ALA, aminolevulonic acid) to treat acne. For this drug to be effective it must be irradiated with a specific amount of blue light at 405 to 420 nm. Most dermatologists report mixed results with LevulanTM; we believe this is due to varying methods of activation.

Dermillume is designed to emit 414 nm blue light, the optimum wavelength to activate ALA. In addition our output (joules/cm2) meets the FDA power requirements for treating acne with Levulan. Many Dermatologists are using LED blue light devices for this purpose.

The Pro Hand Held APL is designed to be a supplement to your existing blue light activation methods. It’s unique cordless design allows activation of Levulan in hard to reach areas and areas with severe acne.

The output of the Pro Hand Held APL is precise, pure and intense. It is timed to provide 9 joules/cm2 at the skin surface – the output suggested for Levulan activation. The activation period is 45 seconds per area. At one inch from the skin a uniform activation is delivered to 2" x 3.5", allowing very efficient use of valuable clinical time.

We suggest you use the Pro Hand Held APL on these difficult areas just before placing the patient under your large blue light. This assures that all areas are activated for a more uniform result.

Lasers are often inefficient activators of LevulanTM or ALA

Many laser representatives are touting the use of their lasers to activate LevulanTM. While red light and lasers may provide some activation effect it is not the most efficient frequency of light to do the job.

Lasers and IPL emitters, cover very small areas, and therefore require a large number of spot treatments. Not only is your valuable clinical time used inefficiently, but the results are not uniform.

Finally, the output power much higher than the optimum recommended for LevulanTM activation, leading to the possibility of LevulanTM destruction. The potential for accidental skin and hair follicle damage, simply does not exist when using LED technology.
